Ghana is getting its first national literacy and creative arts festival. StoryFest Ghana will run from Friday, 11 December to Sunday, 13 December 2026 at the Accra City Hotel, bringing together authors, artists, craftspeople, performers and young creatives for three days of storytelling and Ghanaian culture.
As reported by MyJoyOnline and AmeyawDebrah.com, the festival is organised by AMPLE House and endorsed by the Ghana Tourism Authority as part of the official December in GH 2026 programme. Organisers expect more than 3,000 visits over the three days, including an estimated 1,000 visitors from the diaspora and abroad and 1,500 students from more than 20 schools.
The headline attraction is BELIEVE the Musical, an original Christmas musical pantomime produced by AMPLE Productions, which will be staged on all three evenings. Written by entrepreneur Jason Nana Yaw Mohan and directed by Vivian Boateng of Vivies Dance and Theatre Academy (VDTA), the show is set at a street junction in Accra and tells a story of hope, family and the courage to believe. The producers describe it as Ghana’s first Christmas pantomime, and the audience will be part of the ending.
During the day, visitors can explore six themed zones. The Ghana Story and Book Village will host readings, book signings and literary conversations, while the Made-in-Ghana Creative Market will feature 65 artists, designers and craftspeople selling their work. There is also a Taste of Ghana Food Court, a Youth Story Zone for children and teenagers, a Creative Futures and Digital Storytelling Lab covering film, animation, podcasts and publishing, and a Heritage and Tourism Discovery Hub showcasing Ghana’s 16 regions.
Aspiring writers also have something to aim for. Pitch Your Story, run with the Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP), will offer one storyteller a publishing contract with AMPLE Publications USA plus professional mentorship, in a package valued at US$5,000. Entrants submit a short video, shortlisted applicants pitch live at StoryFest, and the winner will be decided by public vote when the programme airs on national television. Entry details are at amplehouse.net/storyfest.
With December already packed with concerts and parties, StoryFest offers families, students and visitors from the diaspora a different way to enjoy Ghanaian culture this festive season.
