Stonebwoy has called for an end to the mockery of people living with disability, days after donating GH¢100,000 to the Black Challenge, Ghana’s national amputee football team. The dancehall star made the call in a post on X shortly after midnight on Wednesday, 28 October, sharing new photos from his visit to the team.
“I am very happy to see all the engagement and support for the Black Challenge following my visit and donation to them,” he wrote. “This drums home the need for continued support, inclusion, and calling out any act of mockery towards disability.”
As reported by Pulse Ghana and Adomonline, the BHIM Nation boss visited the team at a training session at Mensah Sarbah Park on the University of Ghana campus, where he announced the GH¢100,000 donation towards their preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico. “This is not much at all, but I know it will go a long way to support the group,” he said, while urging more funding for the players, whom he described as “people’s fathers, uncles and our own brothers”. The Black Challenge have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Iraq and Colombia.
The visit has also reopened conversation about an earlier controversy involving Sarkodie and a video featuring amputees. Speaking to DJ Slim on Class FM on Monday, 26 October, Stonebwoy’s Head of Public Relations, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, criticised the rapper’s reported remark, in an interview with Serwaa Amihere, that he would post the video again if given the chance.
“For the first time, I could pardon him… That was an irresponsible statement,” she said, according to Pulse Ghana, before daring him to repost it. She added that people with disabilities still face discrimination and limited access at entertainment venues, noting that Stonebwoy’s shows provide designated spaces for patrons with disabilities. “These guys face a lot of problems in their personal lives and their professional lives. So, at every point in time, we need to have that inclusive conversation,” she said. Sarkodie has not publicly responded to her comments.
Stonebwoy’s message closed by wishing the team “all the very best” at the tournament, and his post has quickly drawn more than a thousand likes. For a squad he hailed as “Champions of Africa”, the extra attention could not have come at a better time.
