Edem has postponed the 2026 edition of Edemfest just five days before the music and cultural festival was due to take place in the Volta Region. His label, the Volta Regime Music Group (VRMG), announced on Monday, 2 November, that the festival, which had been scheduled for Saturday, 7 November, will no longer go ahead on that date. A new date will be announced once it is confirmed.
In an official statement issued with PRG Africa, VRMG said the decision followed “a strategic opportunity that has emerged for VRMG.” The organisers said that, “given its timing and potential long-term value to Edemfest,” they had chosen to pursue it, “necessitating a change to the festival’s original schedule.” The statement did not say what the opportunity is.
According to the label, the move reflects a broader ambition for the event. Beyond its identity as a music and cultural festival, VRMG says it wants to develop Edemfest into a platform that creates greater opportunities for Volta’s music, culture, heritage and tourism, while showcasing the region as a destination for cultural experiences.
Edem, also known as Ayigbe Edem, said in the statement: “Edemfest has grown because of the people, the culture and the support behind it. We see an opportunity to take the festival further and create even greater value for the region, and we believe it is worth pursuing. We apologize for the schedule change and appreciate everyone’s understanding and continued support.”
Not everything on the Edemfest calendar is affected. VRMG confirmed that the Jubilee Radio Health Walk will go ahead as scheduled, although Edem will not be there. The walk, billed as the Edemfest Hogbe Health Walk, was announced by the rapper in a post on X in October. Its flyer gives the date as Friday, 6 November, at 5am, starting at Jubilee Radio and finishing at Aborigines.
Class FM reports that the 2026 edition had been planned for Emancipation Beach in Keta. The organisers thanked the health walk partners and participants, sponsors, artistes, creatives and all stakeholders who had contributed to preparations for this year’s festival, and said the new date and further details would be shared through Edemfest’s official channels.
The postponement was also reported by Adomonline and Class FM.
Edemfest is Edem’s annual celebration of Volta music and culture. For now, fans who had planned to travel to Keta this weekend will have to wait for the organisers to name a new date.
