Kuami Eugene says he is praying to reach the kind of lasting influence associated with Shatta Wale, where an artiste can stay relevant without constantly dropping new music. Speaking on Pluzz FM on 5 November, the Angela hitmaker said royalties, publishing income and investments have given him the room to slow down and test how loyal his fans remain between releases, as also reported by Pulse Ghana and GhanaWeb.
In a post on X, Pluzz 89.9 FM carried a clip from the interview in which Kuami Eugene said he wants Shatta Wale’s level “where you don’t have to do much.” He added that money is no longer his main driver, noting that monthly royalties and publishing cheques, plus a couple of investments that are paying off, have changed how he measures success.
That shift is already shaping his release calendar. After putting out his latest single, Stranger, he plans to hold on for a while rather than rush another project, partly to see whether listeners still carry “that Kuami Eugene love” through longer gaps. He also pointed to TikTok’s appetite for fresh tracks as a pressure many artistes feel to keep feeding the timeline.
The singer compared his career path to university life, saying he has moved past the basics and now sees himself at “Level 400” and about to graduate, focused on cementing a reputation that can outlast any single release cycle.
Kuami Eugene, known for hits such as Angela and a steady run of highlife and Afrobeats records, stressed that he is not walking away from music. He said he can still choose not to release anything until March next year and trusts that, by God’s grace, his audience will wait.
