DStv subscribers in Ghana now have cheaper options to choose from. From today, Thursday, 5 November, MultiChoice Ghana has replaced its old line-up with four new packages, Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate, priced from GH¢50 a month, according to DStv Ghana.
The new Starter package costs GH¢50 for more than 90 channels, Select is GH¢100 for 123-plus channels, Sports is GH¢250 for 132-plus channels and Ultimate is GH¢570 for 153-plus channels. DStv says existing customers will be migrated automatically in phases, and no new decoder is needed.
As reported by MyJoyOnline, the four packages replace six older ones: Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus, Premium and Party. Starter takes over from Access, which cost GH¢98, while Select replaces Family, previously GH¢188. Ultimate replaces Premium, down from GH¢854, and the new Sports package brings together the football that was previously spread across Compact and Compact Plus.
“Our customers spoke, and we listened. This is not just restructuring. This is an evolution of the DStv brand. You are going to watch more content but pay much less than you are paying now,” MultiChoice Ghana’s Managing Director and Country CEO, Alex Okyere, said at the launch, according to MyJoyOnline. He stressed that the new pricing is permanent and not a promotion.
For entertainment fans, local content features from the entry level. Akwaaba Magic, Cartoon Network and the new SuperSport KICKOFF channel are part of Starter, while M-Net Movies 1 and 2 have merged into M-Net Movies+, which DStv says will carry fresher blockbusters with fewer repeats.
Mr Okyere also told Graphic Online that the prices should make piracy less attractive. “With these prices, 50 Ghana Cedis, it can’t even buy data for a week. So you even spend more money streaming on all those pirating sites than just getting DStv for just 50 Ghana Cedis,” he said, adding that MultiChoice is working with the Minister of Communications and the Attorney General to clamp down on illegal streaming and imported boxes.
MyJoyOnline also reported that a decoder and dish combination will now cost GH¢99, or GH¢49 for the decoder alone for customers who already have a dish.
