Ghanaian music duo, Ruff N Smooth made up of Ricky Nana Agyeman (Bullet) and Clement Baafo Foh (Ahkan), has chalked up another success in their music career, having been adjudged Most Promising African Artiste(s) at the 1st Annual African Entertainment Awards Canada (AEAC) held in Toronto, Canada.
The awards, which is the brainchild of Stash House Entertainment, founded by one of Nigeria’s fast-emerging entrepreneurs, Kunle Adekale seeks to award African entertainment personalities and outfits in Canada and abroad. It was also supported by Microbel Entertainment.
It showcases the rich culture of African art and entertainment and also celebrates cutting edge developments and forward thinkers who are shaping the future of African entertainment industry.
The event was held on Saturday September 10 at the popular Sandra Faire & Ivan Fecan Theater at York University in Toronto, Canada and was attended by several African entertainment personalities based in North America and Africa with special representation from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Ghana.
This will be the group’s third international award after winning Ghana Music Group of the Year category at the Citi People Entertainment Awards in Lagos, Nigeria and the B2G Awards in Amsterdam, Netherlands for Best African Performance.
According to the duo who spoke in an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com from Toronto, Canada, they faced stiff competition from several artistes including Nigerian star 2Face Idibia and DR Congo’s Fally Ipupa to win the 24-carat gold award.
The elated duo said, “We feel it’s a dream come true because it has been our dream. It means our music is going international because all the three awards we have won so far are all international awards.”
Asked why they thought they were selected ahead of 2Face Idibia and Fally Ipupa, the Swagger Boys opined that, “We have been here for less than two years but we have five popular songs in Canada – Swagger, Sex Machine, Azingele, Monalisa and Fire – all popular tunes in Canadian clubs. It is not easy for an artiste to even have one hit song.”
They had the chance to show off their skills at the awards’ after party at the On The Rocks night club in Toronto.
The group, which is currently on tour, revealed that they will be showing off their award after their shows in Canada and the UK.
“We have a couple of shows to play in Vancouver, Canada, on the 24th of September and later fly to London on the 30th for the Hiplife Festival happening at the 02 Indigo in London. We will be in Ghana hopefully first week of October.”
The AEAC also awarded personalities in several spheres of entertainment including Best African Promoter, Best African Male Model, Best African Annual Event, Best African Comedian, Best African Annual Event and Best African MC.
