Silky voice Kwabena Kwabena and Tema-based rapper, Stay Jay will headline this year’s Kente Media Awards UK 2011 scheduled to come off Saturday, November 12 in the UK.
The annual event, which will also be used to launch the 2011 edition of Miss Tourism Ghana UK, will come off at the UK Centre for Carnivals Arts in Luton, UK.
The awards celebrates the symbolic Ghanaian rich Kente cloth and also recognises and rewards the work of Ghanaian media houses for bringing Ghanaians in the Diaspora up-to-date about happenings in Ghana.
This year’s event is powered by the Ghana Society UK and Miss Tourism Ghana and is under the auspices of the Minister for Tourism, Mayer of Luton, Ghana’s Ambassador to the UK and Ireland and the Ghana Tourism Board.
The Minister for Tourism, Mrs. Akua Sena Dansua and Priscilla Asare, winner of this year’s Club Miss Tourism (Ghana) are expected to be in attendance.
Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade & Tourism and dignitaries from the Ghana Tourist Board will also grace the event.
Apart from performances from Kwabena Kwabena and Stay Jay, there will be exciting cultural displays and live-band music.
As part of preparations towards this year’s event, organizers have put together a week long Kente exhibition at Luton Central Libraries in Luton.
The exhibition is aimed at giving patrons and the general public – including investors – a unique opportunity and platform to meet and interact with the exhibitors and Kente weavers.
